Each of us is shaped by the forces of our past—our biology, our early relationships, the stories we carry, and the patterns we’ve developed to navigate life. Yet within us all lies the capacity for profound transformation: a shift from rigidity to flexibility, from confusion to clarity, from fragmentation to wholeness.
What if the key to that transformation wasn’t hidden in a book or confined to a therapy office but waiting in the wild flow of a river?
This summer, I’ll be joining a remarkable group of fellow explorers on a six-day journey—organized by MT Sobek—down the Middle Fork of the Salmon River, one of the most beautiful and untouched river corridors in the United States. But this trip isn’t just about rafting. It’s about awakening. It’s about tapping into the deep, embodied intelligence that nature evokes and allowing it to help us discover more of who we truly are.
The River as a Mirror
The river offers a powerful metaphor for the human experience. It moves with energy and unpredictability, with moments of both turbulence and stillness. We, too, live in flow—ever-shifting between clarity and confusion, momentum and pause. When we learn to meet the river with presence, we begin to meet ourselves that way as well.
As we travel through these canyon walls, soak in hot springs, and sleep beneath stars untouched by artificial light, we’ll also journey inward exploring the terrain of personality and wholeness. Drawing from my latest book, Personality and Wholeness in Therapy, I’ll lead immersive sessions focused on the 9 Patterns of Developmental Pathways (“PDP”)—an Interpersonal Neurobiology (“IPNB”)-informed framework and practical, science-based model for understanding how personality develops from innate temperament. Initially inspired by the Enneagram, PDP offers a path toward integration that supports lifelong growth, insight, and possibility.
Practices in Presence
Each day on the river, we’ll engage in mindful practices designed to bring awareness to the present moment and deepen our connection to ourselves, to others, and to the world around us. Using tools like the Wheel of Awareness, we’ll harness the awe of nature to open the mind and cultivate compassion and clarity.
Evening teachings around the campfire will create space for shared reflection and rich conversation—because it’s in community that much of our healing and insight can emerge.
Who This Is For
This retreat is for anyone drawn to the intersection of inner discovery and the natural world. You may be a therapist or a teacher, a parent or a student, a lifelong practitioner or someone simply curious about what lies beneath the surface of everyday life. No rafting or mindfulness experience is necessary—only a willingness to be present, to be open, and to allow the river to teach.
A Journey into Wholeness
In many ways, this retreat is a return: to nature, to presence, and to the deep well of wisdom that resides within each of us. But it’s also a journey forward into greater integration, insight, and inner freedom.
Throughout our six days together, you’ll learn how your unique personality patterns interact with emotions, relationships, and inner narratives impacting not only how you experience life, but how you shape it. Through the lens of IPNB and the PDP frameworks, we’ll explore how innate tendencies, and adaptive strategies form the foundation of identity and how they can evolve toward greater wholeness.
Through mindful practices, immersive nature, and open-hearted reflection, you’ll take home more than memories. You’ll leave with embodied insights, practical tools, and a renewed connection to yourself and the unfolding river of your life.
If you feel called to join us, I welcome you with open arms—and an open mind.
Let’s awaken together in the wild.
Dan
